Periodontics

Periodontics is a field of dentistry concerned with treating the supporting structures of your teeth such as your gums and jawbone.

The Walden Dental Clinic can offer patients advanced periodontal treatments, including the placement of dental implants and treatment of advanced gum disease.

You may require periodontal treatment if you are suffering from severe gum disease, known as periodontitis. If left untreated, periodontitis can result in atrophy of the jawbone and loss of a tooth.

Gum disease is caused by a number of factors, primarily poor oral hygiene which leads to a build-up of plaque on the teeth and gums. It can also be aggravated by smoking, certain diseases and medications.

It has been found that there are significant links between gum disease and general health, which is why it is vital to keep your gums as healthy as possible.

Your Walden Dental Clinic practitioner can provide advice on how to keep your gums healthy and fight disease. Where patients experienced advanced forms of gum disease, we may refer you a periodontist – a specialist in this field of dentistry.

Advanced periodontal infections can destroy the gums and jawbone. ‘Pockets’ form around the teeth which make the gums more vulnerable to bacteria and infection. So, if you are experiencing symptoms such as bleeding gums, inflammation or swelling, please contact us to make an appointment as soon as possible.

Periodontal treatment can be performed non-surgically, however, in more severe cases you may need a surgical intervention. We will do our utmost to treat your issues within the practice, leaving your gums feeling healthier and infection free.
