A bridge is a replacement tooth which is held in place by crowns. You may require a dental bridge if you are missing one or more teeth.
It is a frequently used restorative treatment which is long lasting and durable. At The Walden Dental Clinic we treat many patients requiring bridges and can do so quickly and efficiently to minimise any discomfort or embarrassment when you have lost a tooth.
Bridges have a number of benefits as they help patients with missing teeth eat and chew normally, rejuvenate your smile, prevent natural teeth from moving out of place and can also reduce the potential of temporomandibular (TMJ) disorders.
If you require a bridge, your natural teeth will be prepared for treatment and a bridge will be made custom made for you.
The bridge will be anchored into position by crowns which are fitted to the natural teeth on either side of the gap. The natural teeth require considerable preparation in order to hold the crowns. The gap is filled by a false tooth which has been made specifically for you and colour matched to your natural teeth.
A bridge can be made from metal or porcelain. The choice of bridge is dependent on where in the mouth the patient has lost a tooth.
Your The Walden Dental Clinic practitioner will advise you on what type of bridge you require. Here are some of the options:
- A traditional bridge is held in place on either side by crowns and can be used to replace on or more missing teeth
- A cantilever bridge is held in place by one supporting natural tooth instead of two
- A Maryland or resin-bonded bridge has a metal framework and is bonded to the supporting teeth with resin
Bridges are created to look and feel natural so that they blend into the mouth. This dental treatment leaves you with a fully functional set of teeth and is not noticeable to others.
At The Walden Dental Clinic we will ensure your bridge is natural and attractive in appearance so you can feel comfortable and confident when smiling.
